What must absolutely not be missing from an Advent calendar for most people? Right! Glitter! Because it is the glitter that truly makes the Advent calendar feel festive.

Have you ever wondered how the glitter gets onto the Advent calendar? At Richard Sellmer Verlag, there have been Advent calendars with glitter for almost 80 years. In the past, the glitter was applied by hand. The Advent calendar, which already had glue applied, moved along a conveyor belt. On the side of the conveyor belt sat employees who had bowls of glitter in front of them. They would take one of the Advent calendars from the conveyor belt and had to pull it through the bowl once, and it would shine with a festive glow.

"With ever-increasing order numbers, it became increasingly irrational to handle the glittering of the calendars in this way. It simply took too long. Now good advice was expensive! Because there was no glitter machine on the market. But what would a Swabian tinkerer be if he let that discourage him? Tim Sellmer, the son of the company founder, pondered, tinkered, and crafted, thinking to himself: a man does it himself! And so, in the 1970s, he quickly developed and built such a machine himself."

"And since then, the good piece has (almost) always been running reliably and adds the final Christmas sparkle to our Advent calendars. Admittedly, the little machine has aged quite a bit by now and repairs have to be made from time to time. But even today, one searches in vain for a glitter machine that could apply glitter to our calendars in large quantities."

And so the good piece is cared for and maintained and is still in use for you almost daily after more than 50 years. And we hope and wish that it will continue to faithfully serve you for many, many more years!
