Below our press release:

Everyone knows them: Advent calendars - the timepieces that not only shorten the waiting time for Christmas for children.
Richard Sellmer Verlag from Stuttgart has specialized in the production of this beautiful pre-Christmas tradition and has been doing so for over 75 years, since the company was founded. To this day, every Advent calendar that leaves the house is also produced there.
The success story of the publishing house began in 1945 in the living room of the company founder Richard Sellmer. There he produced, entirely by hand, the first Advent calendar of the publishing house (Die kleine Stadt), which was at the same time the first Advent Calendar The Small Town after World War II. With this calendar also began the triumphal march of the Advent calendar in the USA, where this pre-Christmas tradition was until then completely unknown.
Since 2005 this Advent calendar is available again as a reprint.

The publishing program today includes about 130 different Advent calendars. Each year, about 15 new motifs are added to the program by freelance graphic artists. In recent years, reprints of old motifs, which the publishing house has again included in its program, have enjoyed great popularity.
Also this year the Richard Sellmer publishing house has extended its varied Christmas calendar program with some attractive novelties, in different sizes and designs.

It is part of the company philosophy of the Richard Sellmer publishing house that the image of the obverse continues with the reverse images. In all religious Advent calendars, the Christmas story is told in pictures on the basis of the reverse pictures during the Advent season. To underline this, the corresponding Bible verses to the reverse image are printed on the inside of the door. Usually in English.

Whereas in the past everything was made by hand, today various machines take over this work. For example, there is a machine that applies the mica on the Advent calendars. Since such a machine was not available on the market, Tim Sellmer (the son of the company founder) developed this machine himself.

The publishing house also specialises in custom-made products, i.e. commissioned works for external companies.
One is particularly proud of the special designs for Buckingham Palace in London and for the Nobel department store Liberty and Fortnum & Mason. In the meantime, Advent calendars from Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and The Royal Muse were delivered to England.
Advent calendar with Royal motif "By appointment of Her Majesty", so to speak.

To complete the offer, the Richard Sellmer publishing House also offers Chocolate advent calendar to. On the one hand from popular motifs of the publishing program and on the other hand as custom-made. The client provides a motive and the Richard Sellmer Verlag produces from it Chocolate Adventskalender. This offer has become increasingly popular in recent years.

Even after more than 75 years of its foundation, the success of the Stuttgart publishing house remains unbroken. Delivered to over 25 different countries including USA, UK, Japan, Australia, Brazil and many others.
Due to the high demand, there has been a separate sales office near Birmingham since 2001.

The Internet sales of Advent calendars are also growing steadily. Sellmer Advent calendars have already been delivered to Greenland. What many can not imagine is that already after Christmas is produced again. Orders from overseas must be delivered as early as March. In January/February, Richard Sellmer Verlag also exhibits at various trade fairs. So at the Frankfurt Paperworld, the Toy Fair in Nuremberg and the Springfair in Birmingham. In July the publishing house is also represented with a booth at Trendset in Munich and Nordstil in Hamburg.

In August 2008, Tim Sellmer died, the son of the company founder and his sons Frank Sellmer and Oliver Sellmer took over the management of the company. The Richard Sellmer publishing house does not have to worry about the future, because with 5 great-grandchildren of the company founder, even the 4th generation actively helps in the company.
